Mykell L. Messman is the founder of Virginia Beach, Virginia-based Messman Law. Providing representation to clients throughout the area, she divides her practice between criminal defense and family law matters. The misdemeanor and felony charges that Ms. Messman handles include driving under the influence, assault and battery, drug possession and distribution, domestic violence, and murder and manslaughter. Her family law cases include divorce, child custody and visitation, spousal and child support, and property division. As a result of the large military presence in the Virginia Beach/Norfolk area, Ms. Messman provides representation to servicemen and women in military divorce cases as well.After receiving her Bachelor of Arts cum laude in history and political science from Purchase College in 2006, Ms. Messman enrolled at Regent University School of Law and was awarded her Juris Doctor in 2009. While there, she represented her school on behalf of its trial advocacy board in several trial competitions hosted by national organizations or other law schools. After graduation, Ms. Messman worked as an attorney for a well-known tax return preparation and filing company before founding her firm in 2011. Admitted to practice in Virginia, Ms. Messman is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit.The wife of a military veteran, Ms. Messman serves as president of the Family Readiness Group of the Norfolk branch of the United States Army Recruiting Command. She is an active participant in a variety of legal organizations as well. A former treasurer of the Virginia Women Attorneys Association, Ms. Messman is also a member of the Norfolk & Portsmouth Bar Association and The James Kent American Inn of Court.
