- Barbara L. Giuffre is a co-founder of Work/Environment Law Group. Located in San Francisco, California, she focuses her practice exclusively on employment law, providing representation to prospective, current and past employees throughout the greater Bay Area. Ms. Giuffre has extensive experience in handling cases involving workplace discrimination that is prohibited under various state or federal statutes. These include Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the California Fair Employment and Housing Act, and the Pregnancy Discrimination Act.Ms. Giuffre also has experience in assisting clients who have been the victims of sexual harassment in the workplace, and she has been able to obtain favorable results in court or through negotiations. She has filed complaints with both the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing and the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Ms. Giuffre has helped people who were wrongfully terminated or otherwise retaliated against due to their whistleblowing activities as well, and she has negotiated severance agreements. Giuffre majored in economics at Cornell University, and in 1981, she received a Bachelor of Arts with distinction and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Society. She then went on to attend the University of Virginia School of Law and was a member of the Virginia Law Review before being awarded her Juris Doctor in 1985. After graduation, she clerked for a judge on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California before spending several years with a prestigious New York City law firm. Fluent in Spanish and Italian as well as English, she is admitted to practice in California and New York and before several federal district and appellate courts.
