Sandra L. Schpoont is a managing partner at Schpoont & Cavallo, LLP, where she focuses her practice on family law, helping people throughout the New York City area. Ms. Schpoont regularly shares her knowledge of these matters through public appearances and interviews with the media. She is a member of several legal organizations, including having served as the co-chair of the Matrimonial Committee of the New York County Lawyers’ Association, the Family Law Section of the New York State Bar Association, the Matrimonial Section of the New York City Bar Association and the Women’s Bar Association of the State of New York.In addition to her memberships, Ms. Schpoont is heavily involved in the legal community. She served on The New York College of Matrimonial Trial Attorneys as a faculty member; she serves on the Interdisciplinary Forum on Mental Health and Family Law, and she is a former member of the Matrimonial Committee of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York.Combining psychology with legal methods, Ms. Schpoont is known for her work with families. She understands the trauma that divorce creates and helps people find ways to lessen the impact on children. Her personal experiences as a stepmother and mother give Ms. Schpoont insight into these emotional, tense situations and she guides parents through the process of creating a working parenting plan and understanding the laws regarding child support.In 1982, Ms. Schpoont earned her Juris Doctor at Northeastern University School of Law after earning a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from the University of Michigan in 1977. Widely respected by her peers, she often handles tough cases involving children at the request and appointment of local judges. She has handled many contested trials both involving custody and financial matters. She serves Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx, Staten Island, Queens, Long Island and Westchester.
