Focusing his practice primarily on family law matters, Dana E. Prescott has been a partner at the Prescott Jamieson Murphy Law Group since 1988. From the firm's main office in Saco, Maine, he represents clients throughout the state as well as in Massachusetts. Admitted to practice in both of those jurisdictions, Mr. Prescott is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the District of Maine, the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 1st Circuit, and the Supreme Court of the United States.A significant portion of Mr. Prescott's family law practice involved his representation of people whose marriages are ending and who are thus having to deal with such divorce-related legal issues as property division, child custody and visitation, and spousal and child support. An experienced and forceful courtroom advocate when litigation is necessary, his background in arbitration and mediation allows him to often help his clients come to an accord on these matters through the use of those alternative dispute resolution methods. Mr. Prescott also assists victims of domestic violence who are seeking protective orders from the court, and his family law caseload has also included grandparents' custody and visitation rights.Mr. Prescott has experience in other types of civil litigation as well, including civil rights violations, torts and business disputes. He has often acted as guardian ad litem for children who are the subject of contentious custody hearings. Mr. Prescott received a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from what was then known as Western New England College in 1980, and he obtained his law degree from Vermont Law School three years later. He also holds both a master's degree and a Doctor of Philosophy in social work.
