Ann Gushurst is a shareholder and vice president of the Littleton, Colorado, family law firm of Gutterman Griffiths PC She earned her law degree at the University of New Brunswick in 1994 and quickly established herself as a leader in family law litigation, mediation and collaborative law. Her belief that families should attempt to minimize the emotional fallout from a divorce has established her as a leading practitioner of collaborative law in the state of Colorado. Her experience includes handling cases in state and federal court, as well as in the complex field of international child custody under the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction.Included among the many family law cases that Ms. Gushurst has handled in her career is a lawsuit involving the unconstitutionality of the State of Colorado's ban against same-sex marriage. Additionally, she has had cases involving same-sex parents in courts have issued landmark rulings regarding parental rights that have had a significant impacts on similar cases in the state and across the country.Ms. Gushurst lectures and writes extensively on issues related to family law mediation and collaborative law and has served as a past chair of the Colorado Collaborative Law Professionals. She also currently serves on the Family Law Section Executive Council of the Colorado Bar Association and as editor of the Family Law Section newsletter. Her commitment to collaborative law includes her membership in the Academy for Collaborative Practice and on the Colorado Collaborative Law Professionals Board. addition to speaking at seminars to educate her fellow members of the bar on collaborative and family law, Ms. Gushurst has also appeared as a guest on a segment of the "Dr. Phil Show"dealing with divorce in America.
