Sarvenaz Bahar is a Certified Specialist in Appellate Law, The State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization. Ms. Bahar has extensive experience authoring appellate briefs and writs and presenting oral argument in federal and California courts of appeal. She also has briefed cases in the California Supreme Court and the U.S. Supreme Court. Ms. Bahar is the founder of and principal attorney at Bahar Law Office. She specializes in civil appeals and writs in California and federal courts. In addition, she advises trial counsel and clients on matters related to appeal, such as creation of an adequate record and preservation of objections. With an eye toward a potential future appeal, Ms. Bahar also assists trial counsel in drafting or responding to important pleadings such as motions for summary judgment, motions in limine, jury instructions, special verdict forms and post-trial motions. Ms. Bahar also is a member of the Second Appellate District of the California Court of Appeal's appointed counsel panel for indigent defendants. She has been appointed as appellate counsel in numerous criminal and juvenile delinquency cases.Ms. Bahar received her J.D. from Yale Law School in 1991. She received her B.A. summa cum laude from University of Pennsylvania in 1988 in economics and French literature. She completed a portion of her undergraduate studies in Paris, France in a study abroad program run jointly by University of Pennsylvania and Columbia University. At University of Pennsylvania, she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Dean's List for 1985-1988.After receiving her J.D. and before starting to practice law, Ms. Bahar spent a year as a law clerk to the Honorable Barefoot Sanders, Chief Judge, U.S. District Court, Northern District of Texas, in Dallas and a year as a fellow at Human Rights Watch in New York City.Ms. Bahar is admitted to the U.S. Supreme Court, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeal and all courts in California. She is a member of the Board of Trustees for the Los Angeles County Bar Association (LACBA) and the Board of Directors for the Conference of California Bar Associations (CCBA). She is the immediate past Chair of the Appellate Courts Section of LACBA. She also is a member of the Executive Committee of LACBA's delegation to CCBA. Ms. Bahar is fluent in Persian (Farsi) and proficient in French.
