One of the principal attorneys at Embry Neusner Arscott & Shafner, Nathan J. Shafner focuses his practice primarily on workers' compensation matters. Based in Groton, Connecticut, he provides dedicated representation to clients in New London County and throughout the state. Admitted to practice in Connecticut since 1988, Mr. Shafner is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut.Mr. Shafner's client base primarily consists of people who have been injured on the job or who have developed an occupational disease and are seeking their rightful benefits under their employer's workers' compensation insurance coverage. His initial assistance comes in the form of helping to ensure that their claims contain all necessary documentation and that they are filed within the required time period. However, much of Mr. Shafner's work is done in the event that a claim is disputed or denied. In that regard, he has appeared in appeals hearings before the State of Connecticut Workers' Compensation Commission, and he has been able to get favorable results for many of his clients.Mr. Shafner has also represented injured maritime workers and their family members in proceedings governed by the federal Longshore and Harbor Workers' Compensation Act, which is under the auspices of the U.S. Department of Labor. Shafner has served as the president of the Workers' Compensation Section of the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association, and he has testified before the state's legislature on topics related to that area of the law. He is a 1988 recipient of a Juris Doctor from the Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University.
