Matthew Gorney joined Monnat & Spurrier, Chartered, in July 2016 as an associate attorney forcusing on misdeameanor criminal cases. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Gorney maintained a general law practice in Wichita where he gained experience litigating a varity of cases in both state and municipal courts. He is admitted to practice in Kansas, and he is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the District of Kansas, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Gorney simultaneously earned a Master of Science Degree in Journalism from the William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications after successfully defending his thesis: Social Media and Kansas Courtrooms: Assessing Kansas Supreme Court Rule 1001 and Exploring Possible Improvements. He earned a Bachelor's Degree from Kansas State University majoring in Journalism with a minor in Leadership Studies.While in law school, Mr. gorney joined the American Bar Association's Law Student Division and served a year as one of the division's four national officers. Mr. Gorney also worked as a graduate teaching assistant and later adjunct instructor for KU's journalism school during his time in Lawrence.Mr. Gorney also served on the board of directors for the Delta Chi Fraternity from 2012 to 2018, and is a former member of the board for Music Theatre of Wichita.
