Focusing her practice almost exclusively on adoptions, Lisa Marie Williams-McCallum is the founder of Williams Family Law, LLC. Based in Topeka, Kansas, her clients come from throughout Shawnee, Riley, Douglas and Wyandotte counties, and other parts of the state. In addition to her adoption work, she has frequently been appointed by Shawnee County courts to serve as guardian ad litem for children who have been taken into the custody of the state and who have been determined to be in need of care. Ms. Williams-McCallum has been admitted to practice before all Kansas state courts since 2014.Her experience as having been adopted as an infant has drawn Ms. Williams-McCallum to this area of the law. In this regard, she has worked with biological parents as well as with individuals and couples who are seeking to build their family through the adoption process. The types of adoptions that Ms. Williams-McCallum has handled have included private, agency, stepparent and foster care system, and she has represented LGBTQ individuals or couples as well. She is well aware that it can be a complex and emotional process, and she endeavors to ease the burdens on the people whom she works with as well as their family members.Ms. Williams-McCallum attended Columbia College Chicago as an undergraduate, and she received a Bachelor of Science in marketing. She then enrolled at the University of Missouri-St. Louis and obtained a master's degree in education. After spending several years as an English teacher at area high schools, she decided to pursue her legal education at Washburn University School of Law in Topeka, and she was awarded her Juris Doctor in 2014. Her professional affiliations include the Topeka Bar Association and The National LGBT Bar Association.
