- The founder of his own law firm, H. Scott Overholt divides his practice primarily between personal injury and wrongful death matters and workers' compensation. He also has experience representing policyholders whose fire and residential or personal property claims have been denied in bad faith by their insurance companies. Based in Wilmington, North Carolina, Mr. Overholt provides representation to clients throughout the state. Admitted to practice before all North Carolina state courts, Mr. Overholt is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina.In his personal injury and wrongful death practice, Mr. Overholt assists people who have suffered economic and noneconomic harm due to the negligence or recklessness of other persons or entities. The types of cases that he has successfully handled have included incidents arising out of truck and other motor vehicle crashes, surgical errors and other forms of medical malpractice, and defective medical devices. In this area, Mr. Overholt has been able to obtain sizable settlements and jury awards on behalf of his plaintiff clients. His workers' compensation experience includes helping victims of workplace accidents or occupational diseases with the preparation and timely submission of the required claim documentation, and he provides further representation in the event that a claim is disputed or denied.Mr. Overholt attended the University of Arkansas as an undergraduate, and he received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 1987. Remaining in Fayetteville, he pursued his legal education at the University of Arkansas School of Law, and he was awarded his Juris Doctor in 1990. Prior to opening his firm, Mr. Overholt clerked for a judge on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina and was an attorney with another personal injury firm.
