As a tax litigator and adviser, Chaya Kundra, the founder of Kundra & Associates P.C., represents clients in Rockville, Maryland, and the District of Columbia in all stages of tax controversies and planning. She assists businesses, non-profit organizations and individuals in cases involving civil and criminal tax litigation, closely held business taxation, corporate tax issues, divorce tax consequences, international tax law, appeals, IRS audits, collections and fraud. She also helps avoid such tax issues by providing estate planning, asset protection and business formation services. Having obtained a Bachelor of Arts in finance from Loyola University Maryland, where she was recognized for her leadership, scholarship and community service, Ms. Kundra went on to earn her Juris Doctor from American University Washington College of Law in 1994. After law school, she accepted a position at the U.S. Department of Treasury's Office of Financial Enforcement, where she worked on cases involving money laundering and violations of the Bank Secrecy Act. She also handled appeals involving employment discrimination at the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. In order to better her practice, Ms. Kundra holds membership in a number of legal organizations. These include the Women's Bar Association of Maryland; the Indian American Bar Association; the American, Montgomery County and Maryland State bar associations; and the Advanced Tax Institute. Widely recognized for her skill and ethics, Ms. Kundra has earned a number of accolades from her peers. Fortune Magazine named her one of the Women Leaders in Law for 2013 and 2014, and the National Association of Professional Women named her Woman of the Year in 2012.
