Deb L. Kinney is a partner at Johnston, Kinney & Zulaica LLP, and represents clients in Oakland, San Francisco and the rest of Marin County in California. Her legal practice is focused on issues of trust and probate administration, trusts, estate planning and estate litigation. A presenter for The Bar Association of San Francisco, she is also a member of the Bay Area Lawyers for Individual Freedom, the American Bar Association, The State Bar of California and the board of directors for The National LGBT Bar Association.After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in sociology from the University of California, Berkeley, Ms. Kinney went on to pursue her dream of becoming a lawyer. She graduated from the New College of California School of Law with her Juris Doctor and for over 20 years, she has had her broker’s license, giving her extensive real estate experience.That experience allowed Ms. Kinney to help with passing five property tax bills in the state that protect unrelated and registered partners, including a bill that extended Medicare coverage to domestic partners. She regularly presents on topics that include elder issues, LGBT tax issues, estate planning, charitable planning and estate settlement.Passionate about giving back to her community, Ms. Kinney is actively involved with several charitable foundations. She was a board member for the Horizons Foundation for almost 10 years and the Equality California Political Action Committee for three years. She is presently a member of the Horizons Foundation Advisory Council and a board member for Tides Advocacy Fund.
