Attorney George Brugess is a partner at Cogan & Power, P.C., in Chicago, Illinois, where he represents workers who were injured on the job. He is particularly well-known for representing injured railroad workers in cases that fall under the Federal Employers Liability Act. He serves clients throughout the Chicagoland area, as well as throughout Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin.Over the course of his more than three decades in the law, Mr. Brugess has secured substantial verdicts and recoveries for railroad workers who have sustained injuries at work. He has been involved in several significant cases, including a $33 million verdict for a railroad switchman who was badly injured at work.Mr. Brugess earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois and received his law degree from DePaul College of Law. He received his license to practice law in 1981, which made him eligible to appear before all Illinois state courts. He also holds licenses to practice before federal courts in Indiana, Wisconsin, Nebraska and Michigan and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th and 9th circuits.Following law school graduation, Mr. Brugess immediately began litigating railroad-related cases. He served as general attorney for the Union Pacific Railroad and spent many years at another private firm and as a solo practitioner before joining Cogan & Power, P.C.Mr. Brugess enjoys serving his community. He is a former president for the Morton Unit School District Board of Education and an active member of the Academy of Rail Labor Attorneys and the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association Board of Managers.
