Margot Freedman Alicks co-founded Broxterman Alicks McFarlane PC after serving as Shareholder and Vice President of Corporate Governance with Gutterman Griffiths PC, which followed five years of corporate litigation practice in the Delaware Court of Chancery and Delaware Supreme Court. Her practice involved expedited litigation regarding proposed mergers, acquisitions, and implementation of defensive devices such as innovative “poison pills.” Her representation of Fortune 500 companies in complex commercial matters concerning corporate governance and control, contractual and other complex commercial disputes led her to work extensively with financial experts. Margot also advised entity, officer and director policyholders with respect to director and officer (“D&O”) insurance issues arising in the context of corporate litigation and alternative dispute resolution. But that was not the full extent of her experience.Margot fell in love with family law through her representation of children under the care of family services as an attorney guardian ad litem, her assistance with victims of domestic abuse in seeking orders of protection from abuse and/or for custody, and her representation of parents in termination of parental rights proceedings.Since shifting her focus exclusively to family law matters several years ago, Margot has litigated complex and high-conflict divorce disputes over several days of trial, mediated other cases to a low-impact resolution, and used her Collaborative training to settle cases before they are even filed. She has now incorporated significant mentoring and educational elements to her approach to the profession, having now presented numerous continuing legal education courses to her peers concerning family court appointments and challenging family law clients, and having published several articles on legal developments in various complex family law and business matters.
